About the book
Edited by Mark Vancil, this illustrated autobiography combines Jordan's reflections with accounts from coaches, teammates, family, and friends to examine the mentors, discipline, and competitive philosophy behind his career.
Reading perspective
Jordan’s own account sits beside those of his coach Dean Smith, his mother and Nike colleagues. Together they describe practices made harder than games so players stayed calm under pressure, the importance of enjoying the work to avoid burnout, and a Nike partnership he nearly did not pursue.

Make expectations observable
Jordan describes practicing hard every day partly to show teammates the standard he expected of himself. The point is his own rationale for visible conduct, not a guarantee that a team will respond the same way.
Revisit an initial reaction
Jordan initially disliked the appearance of the first Air Jordans, then reconsidered after designer Peter Moore encouraged him to look again. An early judgment can change without making that change a prediction of later success.
